Cut cork to fit the bottoms of your bookends and hot glue down (this is so they don’t slip). Glue a mushroom to the top of each bookend. Add decorative dots in threes using the end of your paintbrush. They were 16 per letter, and I really wasnt going to pay that. These added just enough weight to give these babies some fortitude here. Paint your mushrooms with skin tone on the base and red on the cap. So I spied than adorable set of A-Z bookends at Hobby Lobby, and actually after further inspection I am even unsure if they are bookends or are just decorative statues. I decided to fill the backs of my frames (this is why we needed shadowboxes) with those glass pebbles people use in floral arranging. These frames have zero leverage so I needed to figure out how to add some weight. Now the trick with bookends is, to do their job, they either need to have some leverage or some weight. STEP FIVE: Put the glass back in your frame and add your photo. This isn’t totally necessary, of course, but I like the finished look of a coat of Mod Podge. Then distress paint, if desired (I definitely desired) and give your frames a good coat of Mod Podge to seal them. STEP FOUR: Paint attached pieces of wood. These were pieces I had out in my garage and are about 2″ wide. STEP THREE: Using wood glue, attach a small piece of wood/MDF to the bottom of the frame for stability.
I used some basic craft paint in Desert Turquoise. STEP TWO: Remove frame backing and glass and paint your frames whatever color you’d like. We aren’t going to use them as shadowboxes but we need some width to them. Get reviews, hours, directions, coupons and more for Hobby Lobby at 5820 Shaffer Rd, Dubois, PA 15801.
